Thromboangiitis obliterans or Buerger's disease is a relatively common disease in our country and is responsible for many cases of obscure pains and aches in the feet or legs. Its aBtiology is not definite though most certainly there is a low-grade infective factor associated probably with a certain amount of spasmodic element of the musculature of the media of the affected vessels. The diagnosis is mainly made on clinical grounds. Left to itself the disease pursues, with remissions and exacerbations, a gradually progressive and increasingly painful termination. Long-continued incapacity is usual; gangrene, usually of the dry variety, is frequent; and since the disease starting as a unilateral
